Eve's Night

Winding down, coming from my mother's house. She is the sweetness that my soul is attached to - totally unselfish and graceful.

I hope you spend time with loved ones this season, that is truly the most important element - more than anything material.

From my first unpublished novel "Altairis"

Beginning...

When you’d left, the trees shifted their path and the leaves began to gather. The streams froze over, the grass withered, like my heart which is now beating a slow pulse -- frigid and isolated from time.

Memories of you pierce my thoughts, like a sharp double edged sword, pricking me like a row of thorny rose bushes…how long would I have to endure the pain?

I take in a deep slow breath of the autumn’s air, breezing through the forest with the coldness under my feet. The welled up tears in my eyes are too heavy to fall, my face is solid and tortured. I am beginning to envy the dead, because they at least, are able to sleep.

This is what life is like without you.

The day is winding down. The sky is going from a warm burnt orange fire to a soft grayish purple hue. However my face, my eyes, my mouth are still stone cold. My lips are a pale bluish tint and my eyes onyx. There is clearly a contradiction here. I look down to catch a single petal drifting along…but my icy fingers have destroyed its delicateness. My piercing stare striking away at the creatures in the valley, they are fearful in their approach.

I can see… I am lethal to what’s around me and dangerous to the unprotected. I am utterly alone – because in this condition I am harmful, poisonous.

This is what I’ve become.

Christmas

Did you get everything you wanted to get for Christmas? Yes, I am saying Merry Christmas because its what it is. And also any other Holidays you may celebrate, just say them. Forget Happy Holidays.

All I really want is for my family to be happy and healthy. And whatever God has saved for me. I'm thankful for being able to pay my bills, have a job, a car, and breathe. Apart from that there's still one thing I'm praying for.

The book is coming along, I have written about 13 chapters. There's a lot of moving parts and I have been stalling. But it was a lifetime personal goal I had made for years now. I just never thought it would be coming into fruition. I'll post an excerpt on Christmas.

The makeup is still there, the passion still lives but I need inspiration to move forward. I'm have been a little uninspired from being in this environment. But I know it will pick up again soon.

What have I been up to?

I am putting makeup to the side for just a minute since the fall season is coming full circle. Now I am not saying that I am not taking appointments, because I always am but I have been working on another artistic project.

This project is an undertaking that I'd never know myself to tackle but I welcome challenges.

I think in life you have to take those steps away from the comforts of your surroundings. How else would you find out what your true destiny is if you don't take a risk?

So what am I doing? I am writing a book. There's not much else I can really explain about it, other than it's a story I've been wanting to write for years now and I am just now getting to it. I am ready and once I'm finished, perhaps I will either write a sequel to it or search for an agent to help me with finding a publisher.

This probably sounds silly to some but I consider myself an artist in many ways and expressing myself artistically in this form is very therapeutic.

Once I get closer to being done with the draft, I'll post some excepts on here.

Rihanna Covers Italian Vogue

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/01/rihanna-topless-and-muzzl_n_274261.html?slidenumber=4#slide_image

Rihanna is such a fashion maven in this Italian Vogue 5 page spread. I would really love to work with her and create some looks. She has the perfect face, body and what a muse! There's a lot of girls out here who believe they are models because they can smile and look pretty in front of a camera but just like a guy with a camera it makes her no more a model than him a photographer. You need to do your RESEARCH. And change up your expressions, contort your body, and take some risks.

Hot Things this week

Here some other tops on this weeks list:

1. Kim Kardashian for YRB photoshoot

2. OPI - Banana Bandana

3. Thai Larb Chicken Salad

4. Robert Pattinson

5. New Moon

Vacation

Im on vacation so I am taking a moment to reflect - relax - and re-invent. So I been thinking about moving for a while now. I think this city is too small for me and the things I want to do. So when I graduate from S.U. I'm moving. I think that it's time for me to expand and welcome the new opportunities that are to come.

Mentally, spiritually I am stronger than ever...so it's about time. I will miss my mother the most though because she has helped me so much and literally the only person in my life that has been there for me through it all. I will not however, leave until I know she will be ok.

But other than that, I've been laying out some projects and next moves. My new coupon comes out in the BeBetterBook! Also my work was shown on News Channel 9s Bridgestreet! And I just did the Stepping Out for the American Heart Association fashion show. Pretty good for August.

Wish you could've been there.

Trip Planning

So I have finally booked an awesome hotel at Hotwire.com. I couldn't believe the savings that I got with the rate I was given! The hotel is 1 block from glitterly Times Square and right behind the Port Authority. Traveling will be a sinch!

The Fashion Show is being held on June 27th at the Prince George Ballroom. I am very excited about the whole thing and beaming with happiness. You can't see me but I'm smiling!

I will certianly bring my camera and document the trip...

So pretty much the only thing I have left to do is find an outfit....eeeekkk that's probably the hardest thing to do! Im going shopping next week and probably will be at Boom Babies and other small boutiques in the area. I hate the mall but might have to go!

A Makeup Artist's KIT

So you all know I will be at FFF Week! I had just met with Gwen DeVoe of DeVoe Signature Events who also is the President and CEO. Also Tonya Giddens the VP of whom was very down to earth and friendly towards me. I met almost half of the style team and I am very excited about the show. Yes, I am nervous but that is expected. I am confident in my skills and know that I am going to do well. I want to make all these models splashingly lovely on the runway.

I am so grateful to God for giving me the strength to do this and all my great friends and industry friends for their support.

So for Fashion Week, I need to seriously beef up my kit... So I am thinking I will need:
So here's my current shopping list:

Light Source

This is just a sneak pic of what we did on Wednesday. I guess you know where my inspiration came from...I wanted something futuristic and totally different for Kendra.
Shavonne came up with the idea of the hair and I was inspired by Spock from the new Star Trek movie. I love the colors and the contrast against Kendra's complexion. She was fabulous to work with and truly professional.
Shavonne did an awesome job with the lighting and location (her own attic!) and everything flowed. The outfit was fantastic and it was actually from the local Salvation Army + Shavonne's Closet.

Lifetime or Season?

A friend once told me that some people are here for a season and some people are here for life. It's hard to tell sometimes. But there are lots of things to look for:

1) Can you share your deepest secrets and trust that they will not exploit you or use it against you later in life?
2) If you need that person, really need them. Are they there for you?
3) Are they around you when you've got nothing but the shirt on your back to offer?
4) Can they sense if you're hurt and also try to comfort you?
5) Do they celebrate you or just tolerate you?

If the answers do not add up to an astounding Yes, to all, then you may have this person in your life for just a season. They are there to serve their purpose and then it's time for you to move on.

Professionalism

What's on my mind is a little sticky icky subject called...responding to emails, responding to numerous messages/texts/chats/, writing back, calling to confirm, calling to cancel 1 week in advance, letting me know you are on your way, letting me know you are going to be late, calling me to tell me the bad news, emailing me back to let me know you'd like to work with me or not and/or otherwise known as being professional.

This is one major pet peeve I have. I can say that many relationships both personal and business wise have been severed (on my part) due to this one factor...And that is unprofessional people. It causes me to think differently about you. And I don't like that feeling. It causes me to lose trust in you. It makes me angry. And it's annoying.

As harsh as this may sound, it's really not that easy for me to end things with people. I will try many times and ask very politely or even wait for you to get back to me because you are so "busy"...But enough is enough.

I'd like to think I'm a humble person who doesn't try to be anyone but who God made me to be. And being open and honest is something I strive to do. But once someone shows me that they do not value me or my time then I really have no use to for that individual. So I move on and continue with my life.

This is directed at no one and at the same time to everyone...but as much as I expect from people, I promise that if you ever work with me or get to know me, you will know how passionate and serious I am about my work and my time. So please I ask nicely, don't waste it. Have common courtesy and be professional.

And thank you to the people who are good to me ;-) Of course I am not talking about you. Or maybe I am :-O

Ta ta for now - Oubon

Baltimore Fashion Week

So I guess I am putting myself out there again...yikes! I am going to try to see if I can get into the show as a Makeup Artist. I think this would do wonders for my career and not to mention provides lots of opportunities for networking.

I have worked so hard and come such a long way, I really want to make this audition. So I hope that the Lead MUA is able to meet with me and I really hope she likes me. With God's will I will be there and I truly believe if it was meant for me HE will make a way.

Stay tuned...

Fashion Passion

I will be attending 2 local shows this weekend and am very excited to see the collections at each show. I am glad to see more things like this going on in the city of Syracuse because our young people need something fun like this.

It is discouraging after a while to not have anywhere nice to go unless you want to go out to eat or go to a bar. Thankfully my group Fashionmodeling315 is going currently holding casting calls for models. It will be a hot shoot indeed. I will post some pictures on www.oubon.com however disk space is limited so I will probably post here first!

Saturday fashion show is at Bishop Ludden HighSchool and Sunday's show is at Artistry.. See ya

Working on my Website

Sooo, I think I've found the pot of gold! Well at least it's close, it's the flash website of my dreams. But I have to weigh the costs of the whole thing. It's kinda pricey and fancy but sometimes you have to sacrifice and pay for art.

Do I go with a less expensive site or go for what I want?

Sometimes people don't understand art or can't justify paying for it but it's apart of our everyday life. And I do believe there are good photographers and great photographers. Good models and great models. Good makeup artists and great makeup Artists. What are you willing to pay for these services? What you pay is what you get, unless there's a sale! And I believe in those : )

So in short I might just pay more for the site, but I am getting a better product in the end and you will be able to tell the difference I think.

Today's Inspirations - Day 19

Christian DIOR - Couture Spring 2009

Glamourous precious sheen and very floral for Dior this spring. It was definately ornate and reminded me of film noir but instead of the deep jewel tones like onyx, rubies and amethyst, there were beautiful hues of pale rose, white, yellows, and soft blues. Very romantic and very persuasive, flirty. I loved the makeup and hair as it added a modern perspective. Oh and YELLOW is back in!

Some thoughts for today:
Never mix emotions with business.
Stay focused on the current task but always think about the next 3 moves way in advance.
Say hi to everyone you encounter, it may open an unexpected door.
Pray and thank God for every waking morning.
Don't be so easily offended.
